| Shank nuts are high-temperature components of aircraft engines. These fasteners are able to withstand tremendous stress and extreme temperatures. They are manufactured in a variety of configurations and materials and are installed by flaring the nut shank with a conical tool. |

| Rivets are permanent mechanical fasteners. Before being installed, a rivet consists of a smooth cylindrical shaft with a head on one end. The end opposite the head is called the buck-tail. On installation the rivet is placed in a punched or drilled hole, and the tail is upset, or bucked. |
